3 factors:
1.no of seats in the iits have increased by 200+
2.this year people have a better idea about msc tech degrees
i.e. no dual available
so only msc tech infosys has been popular and not the others
3.maybe that rumour about increase in the seats in goa and pilani is true _________________ A Y V

see there are many factors a student looks at before joining a college just not based
on what people say
mainly this time record no of freshers have got through JEE so ob they got into IIT
first and then BITS and many are repeating as well if JEE is so easy
then why not give a second shot get into IIT B thus get the ultimate stamp IIT this is what many think and i am again saying awareness about BITS is still pretty low _________________ I AM THE JOY I AM THE SUCCESS I AM DOUBT BITS

This year the BITSAT screwed everyone's ass . . There was a lot of rank concentration in the 275 - 295 region . . All these students may not have applied at all looking at last years cutoffs . .
They might've thought that they don't stand a chance . . Plus the awareness about the M.Sc duals is very low . . So, many students would have filled only the B.E courses even if they applied . .
So the waitlist cutoff came down . .
It all comes down to one thing . . As Exec said . .
Less applicants. . _________________ The only imperfect thing in this nature is the Human Race . . |

whatever the reason has been.. BITS has certainly been a loser; poor awareness of BITS cuz of BITS poor advertisements has let the deserving ppl miss there seats in BITS and vice versa..
And its the students who make a college and build its envirionment, not the xyz brands or a gr8 lab or a gr8 faculty.. |

i agree with kushagra to an xtent but i dont think there might be any difference between a guy scoring 280 n 270,jst the matter of 2 to 3 ques in the face of 150 ques.anyday one can attempt 2 3 ques more or get it wrong.so according to me not much diff.
but this is a serious point that in spite of giving a hand out to every stud, very less no. of stud cared to go thru it.bits shud advertise or we stud shud advertise bitsat in a more elaborated way n this forum has worked its best(hats off).must pour in some more ideas for advertising because indian junta only looks at ads.maybe advertisements or some relevant blogs on google, orkut, yahoo will work.seniors plz look into it.u all might have better ideas. |

agreed mate...
BUT, its not the 270 nd the 280s abt what the BITS ppl shud be worried abt... its the 350 nd the 360.. why r these ppl leaving BITS (if not joinin IITs, ofcourse)
Anywaz.. the authorities shud be the one really worried abt this trend.
The situation is alarming cuz the closing ranks fell from 6500 to 8000.. !!!
(And many ppl may not like this, but this doesnt happen in the IITs(nd thatz why IIT r.., tho i agree BITS isnt much far from the standards of the IITs, but still there is always a room for improvement.. and here is one ! )
