Admission in second sem....what is it?

I keep hearing ppl talking abt. some admission in second sem or something.what do they mean? Is it meatn for us guys who gave BITSAT?

ya it is for this guys who gave BITSAT only
heres how it works :
u write the BITSAT but dont take admiision for the first sem( due to a host of reasons like want to stay at home , didnt think u would get a good branch here etc etc)
then if u change ur mind u get to aplly for joining bits here frm the scnd sem branch allotmnt is done purely on the basis of r bitsat marks and u start the colege frm 2nd sem
and more importantly the seats alooted are the seats that have not ben filled during he first sem so basiically its a procedure to fill in the empty seats .

ps:around 18 students took admmision into BPHC by this procedure

But then, first sem students should be allowed to choose the course they want and fill the vacant seats first (for eg - if a comp. sc. seat is vacant, a civil guy could be offered it rather than a new guy.)

i agree wid freedomfighter and want to add that dis second year admissions is a 5.5 years course ,and dat is wat u shud noe prior to applying

@newbie this is done after upgadation of students, as far as i know.
it works like ;that u hav good bitsat marks which wud hav given u a seat in any of the branches,but u dint apply,now u want to join BITS in second sem, u get admisssion but the branch u wud get may get a branch worse than wat u wud hav got if u wud hav joined at the start.

the first sem students can also apply for the branch transfer and so can the new people then the bitsat marks r compared and preferentially the seats r alloted

I want to clarify that the second sem admission is a 4 year course only. But effectively for u (if u haven't taken a drop) it becomes 4.5 since the time u gave BITSAT. It becomes 5.5 effectively only if u r a dual degree student. Also its not at all necessary that u get a branch worse than that which u wud hav got in first sem. I'm saying this coz I'm a second sem admission myself. Like I was offered BE Chem . in the first sem and I got BE Mech. in d second sem. There's one guy in our batch who had got BE EEE in sem 1 & got BE Comp. Sci. in sem 2 admission.

Single Degree 2nd Sem Admissions is a 8 semester course. Dual degree 2nd sem admissions is a 11 semester course. Both counting from the sem admission is taken.

i m bitsian 1st yearite...! i got 346 in bitsat-2009...! my decipline is chemical eng.(A1) by choice now................can i get Comp Sci(A7) in 2nd sem ??nd yes cut off for CS this time was 343 !............................Thanxxx

I think you can re apply with that score for the second sem admissions. You should confirm with the administration.

Around what level i.e. score at BITSAT is needed for direct admission in B.E. and M.Sc dual? Will it be equal to closing of main admission round or it decreases a lot, can anybody put some light on this topic? Last years cutoff(Approximate) for second sem admissions?
