Good day sirs,

I got an admit offer for M.Sc(tech) IS @ Hyderabad campus in the fourth iteration. Very Happy

I do want to join BITS in that program, but my parents are in a dilemma whether I should join in for IS or not.

The main problem is that we dont get a B.E degree by joining an M.Sc(tech) course.

What should i do now? I personally want to join BITS.

MSc.(Tech) + BE Dual :rare , offerred to only very high CGPA people.(5yrs)

So, if I join in am M.Sc(tech) programme and get a chance for doing a B.E dual, what degrees do I get after the completion of the course?

Do i get a B.E? Confused

Read the forum, especiaaly the sticky before repeatedly asking d same questions Evil or Very Mad

MSc(tech) does NOT give you a dual degree under normal conditions, unlike MSc(hons) degrees. The degree itself is sufficient for a good job/placement.
However, you MAY get a dual if u perform really well in your first year (like cgpa>9.5). The director of BPGC said "give me a 10 pointer and I will give you any course you want!"

If you DO get the dual with MSc Tech, u will pass out with 2 separate degrees:
1)MSc(tech) IS
2) BE/MSc Whatever choose as ur dual
in 5 years.

MSc Tech IS + BE will be for more than/= 5.5 yrs depending on which BE.As far as IS is concerned , it is better not to take a BE .

To Dinesh - Dont be disheartened with what ur mates say.

As someone noted just above, the director reportedly said "give me a CGPA 10 pointer and I will give him any course he wants"

Theoretically and PRACTically this appears true - ie if you have a very high CGPA nearing 10,
irrespective of which course u are in in the first year, u have a chance at the end of 1st year to ask for vertical transfer (say from B. Pharm to BE Computers, or from MSc IS to BE EEE)

This is what I have understood. Sometimes even a CGPA just > 9 may even be useful, as each case is handled each year individually. So u can (and must if u are keen) work for it.

Get like 9.5+ and most likely u'll get it.However , IS has placements/opportunities as good as CS , so be wise when choosing your transfer.
